Early
History
The
Sisters of Bon Secours established their first
hospital in Baltimore in 1919. By 1980, the sisters
had established or assumed responsibility for
several Catholic hospitals, long-term care
facilities and other health care services.
The Health System Today
The Bon Secours Health
System was formed in 1983 to provide skilled,
unified management and professional resources for
all health care operations while preserving Bon
Secours' Catholic tradition of providing quality
care to all, especially the poor and sick. Today,
the Health System is a $2.25 billion not-for-profit
organization comprised of seven local systems
primarily on the East Coast. The Health System owns,
manages or joint ventures 16 acute care hospitals, 5
nursing care centers, and 5 assisted living
facilities, as well as independent living and other
facilities. Bon Secours Health System consists of
more than 16,500 caregivers helping people in ten
communities in seven states.
Bon Secours Vision
Inspired by the healing ministry of Jesus Christ and
the charism of Bon Secours, the long term vision of
the Bon Secours Health System is to be recognized
for its leadership in justice, transforming the
communities in which we serve and work into places
of health and hope and being a prophetic voice for
systemic US health care reform and a more humane
world. |
